At SSOA, we believe that learning should be as unique as each student. Traditional classroom settings don’t always work for every child, and we understand that students have individual learning styles and needs.
Our alternative program is designed to support each student in a way that works best for them—whether through hands-on learning, personalized attention, in-school supports, or tutoring. We provide the opportunity for students to thrive beyond the traditional classroom setting, offering a supportive environment that meets them where they are. This approach empowers students to grow academically, emotionally, and socially while discovering and exploring their full potential.
Athletics
At SSOA, we believe athletics are imperative for a well-rounded educational experience. We have a variety of activities for students to participate in and have access to facilities designed for multi-sport use.
Our athletic programming helps student-athletes develop intrinsic motivation, responsibility, teamwork, leadership skills, and courage following our programs values of kindness, integrity, perseverance, respect, and responsibility.
Some of our popular sports include basketball, softball, cross country, and hockey. There is something for everyone to get involved in! Go SSOA!
We aim to meet the needs of each student, whether it is academic, personal, or professional. We understand that each young mind possesses unique characteristics that we hope to develop and strengthen through our Student Support Program, which provides academic and social-emotional learning support.
SSOA staff promote and enhance the development of the whole student. We aim to empower healthy self-esteem, self-awareness, mental health, and a sense of responsibility to oneself and others. There are times when students of all ages are challenged and need guidance; we offer a host of resources from which they can learn and grow:
Provide educational advocacy to develop study skills, time management, self-esteem, goal setting, diversity training, and career support.
Support parents and families in transition.
Provide crisis intervention and response.
Facilitate conflict resolution.
Support students through access to confidential one-on-one counselling sessions or group sessions that focus on age-appropriate strategies.
Advocate for the academic achievement of all students.
Support teachers and families in understanding and addressing behavioural issues.
Identify and follow-up with students with a wide range of needs (academic, behavioural, etc.).
Address the needs of all students through prevention and intervention.
